Coal Drops Yard

The historic building ensemble Coal Drops Yard, created between 1850-1860 in the Kings Cross area of London, was restructured to designs by the architectural practice Heatherwick Studio. The building is very close to another FRENER & REIFER project, Gasholders London.

As the name Coal Drops suggests, the building was designed for the unloading and temporary storage of coal (delivered by train), before its subsequent sale or further transportation.
The high-end redevelopment is featuring boutiques, restaurants, galleries and shops, as well as public realm.

As part of the redevelopment team, FRENER & REIFER was responsible for the technical development, design-engineering, fabrication and installation of the building envelope.
